Below is a list of organizations and people I respect and recommend, with a few comments about why.

Arctic atmospheric research

CREATE Arctic Science blog, Instagram, & Twitter.

  • Great stories and photos from researchers in the high Arctic working at PEARL.
  • I created and used to run these accounts 😉

Photo Journal for annual ACE satellite validation campaigns at PEARL

  • Great photos from the latest intensive 3-week research trips to PEARL for satellite validation
  • I was the communications/webmaster lead for these campaigns from 2012-2015

Education

Science Rendezvous

  • An annual springtime event aimed at engaging all Canadians with science and researchers!
  • I used to volunteer with them (creating new programs and events), and look back fondly at the experience.

Canada-wide Science Fair

  • A wonderful organization encouraging students to create their own research.
  • I helped organize their 2011 event in Toronto and was very impressed with the organization and the students. I wish my high school teacher’s had been involved!

Science Borealis

  • Compiling the best of Canadian science blogs – hear about research straight from the lab.

Advocacy

Evidence for Democracy

  • I believe in their mission to advocate for robust science funding in Canada and evidence-based decision making.
  • I’ve been on the Board of Directors since 2013.
  • Follow E4D on Twitter and Facebook for updates, or become a volunteer.

Please feel free to get in touch if you want to know more.

Science policy

Toronto Science Policy Network

  • They create great events in Toronto to interface with science policy issues

Music

Aaron Saloman’s website

  • Aaron’s a good friend of mine, and a great musician/producer/engineer. Check him out! Even better, hire him 😉

Tyler Kealey’s website

  • Tyler and I have been friends since elementary school and played some shows together during high school. He has immense talent as a songwriter. He plays regularly around Ottawa, and is always an entertaining performer.

Photography

Paul Loewen’s 500px page

  • I was on a few high Arctic research campaign teams with Paul (2013-2015). He’s a great photographer and super nice guy.
